Reading SkillsReading is more difficult for students today as a result of technology. Reading on a screen can inhibit deep reading, and multi-tasking that occurs while using technology can lead to an inability to focus. Students are taught how to be self-aware and mindful of these distractions and how to set themselves up to succeed as readers.
Reading comprehension is a multifaceted process. For students to adequately comprehend text, they need vocabulary knowledge and metacognitive skills, which allows them to monitor their understanding and reflect on what they have read. Our tutors teach active reading strategies to improve comprehension and focus. |

Our tutors also help students read more closely, identifying point of view, context, cause and effect, rhetorical strategies, and nuance. Writing in response to reading often requires students to analyze evidence, synthesize sources, and draw deeper conclusions. These skills are required for college-bound students and those taking AP and Honors classes.

Writing SkillsWriting instruction includes all levels of writing, from basic sentence and paragraph structure, to summarizing, story-telling, short-answer responses, finding textual evidence, writing topic sentences, and introducing and analyzing evidence.
