Test Prep
(In-Person + Online)

Our Test Prep Services are Available In-Person + Online!

Preparing You For The Next Step

Picture
Standardized test preparation is available for the ACT, PSAT, SAT, GRE, Catholic Entrance Exam/SSAT/ISEE and many professional licensing exams. Our approach is unique in that the students works with a specialized tutor for the reading sections and another for the math sections. Your student can also select a specific section of the test to prep for. Each session is customized to improve your student’s score. We recommend 8 sessions to cover all areas. There is never a contract. Skype and online sessions also available.

Our tutors are up-to-date on changes occurring within these tests, and they offer advice on superscoring, sending scores, how many times to take the tests, and which test to use for college admission. Recently, we have been able to accommodate international students via Zoom!

The Village Tutors are current on the latest admission trends, the special strengths of specific colleges and universities, and the educational accommodations available at schools. Our tutors advise on high school course selection to help get students college-ready and increase their chances of admission at the college of their choice.

Time to write college essays? The Village Tutors can help students find their ‘voice’ and present themselves in a memorable way! This can be done online, too, via shared documents.

College Consulting With
The Village Tutors

Picture
We are excited to be expanding our services to offer College Consulting to our families. Our model is a bit different from traditional college consultants that charge a flat fee for their services. The Village Tutors is unique in that all of our tutoring is highly personalized, and this holds true for our college consulting as well. We charge by the session, so you and your student can use our college consultant for as little or as much support as you would like.
Popular areas of college consulting include:
  • Analysis of your student’s academic profile, including high school transcript, coursework, GPA, class rank if reported, test scores, and individual strengths and weaknesses
  • Consulting sessions to determine areas of interest/possible majors/school climate preferences, followed by research-based recommendations for schools that are a good fit for your student
  • Researching student support services and special-education student population for college-bound students with documented learning disabilities
  • Assistance researching schools with your student (it is always best if students are involved in this process right from the beginning), including student profiles, social life, academic life, school and neighborhood community; specific majors and academic plans/course sequencing; costs of attendance and scholarship availability
  • Guidance in writing college essays and personal statements to request accommodations
  • Help completing the Common or Coalition Application, individual college applications, and scholarship applications
  • Researching alternatives to college, including gap years, trade schools, and work options

Our College Consultant, Ann Wilson, is a member of the Illinois Association for College Admissions Counseling. She also works extensively as an academic and test prep tutor at TVT and is well informed about acceptance trends, schools where local students have been happy or not, schools that are more likely to offer merit scholarships, and the ACT and SAT scores that various schools are looking for, especially since these tests have changed in the past 18 months.
