“Finding the best fit and empowering students to pursue the future they desire.” – Ann Wilson

We are excited to offer College Consulting and other post-secondary school mentorship to our families! Our College Consultant, Ann Wilson, is a member of the Illinois Association for College Admissions Counseling. She also works extensively as an academic and test prep tutor at The Village Tutors and is well informed about acceptance trends, schools where local students have been happy (or not), schools that are more likely to offer merit scholarships, and the ACT and SAT scores that various schools are looking for, especially as these tests have evolved in recent years.

College Consulting: How We Support Your Student

Our model is a bit different from traditional college consultants that charge a flat fee for their services. The Village Tutors is unique in that all of our tutoring is highly personalized, and this holds true for our college consulting as well. We charge by the session, so you and your student can use Ann for as little or as much support as you would like.

Popular areas of college consulting include:

  • Analysis of your student’s academic profile, including high school transcript, coursework, GPA, class rank if reported, test scores, and individual strengths and weaknesses

  • Consulting sessions to determine areas of interest/possible majors/school climate preferences, followed by research-based recommendations for schools that are a good fit for your student

  • Researching student support services and special-education student population for college-bound students with documented learning disabilities

  • Assistance researching schools with your student (it is always best if students are involved in this process right from the beginning), including student profiles, social life, academic life, school and neighborhood community; specific majors and academic plans/course sequencing; costs of attendance and scholarship availability

  • Guidance in writing college essays and personal statements to request accommodations

  • Help completing the Common or Coalition Application, individual college applications, and scholarship applications

  • Support throughout the graduate application process

Post-Secondary School Mentorship: Not Only for College-Bound Students

Ann also works with students who prefer alternative paths after high school, whether it be to take a gap year, pursue vocational training, or go straight to work. Ann supports recent college graduates and other job seekers, including job search and interview coaching, resume writing, and holding job-seekers accountable so they do not lose focus or momentum.
